Set Apart

Elders,

We are a particular people, set apart to be something greater together than alone. The word Saint means anointed or set apart. When we take on the name of the person who set us apart. When we are asked to have faith, to repent, to renew covenants, and follow the Spirit, it's not confinement, this is true freedom.

Think of the shape of a tree. At the base is a foundation with nourishment, and yes, it's in the dark (kind of like how we are in mortality now, eh). In that foundation, we are reaching up for light and nourishment. When we break up the soil, it's a glorious thing. You cannot go back after you have received new light and knowledge.

Then there is the trunk. The rules are streamlined and understanding that there is fruit coming and it is exciting and expected. At this stage, young buds and leaves are reaching for the light for nourishment. The exciting moment that any day you could share the sweetness arrives with anticipation.

Then there's the fruit. A reflection of the seeds you plant in your heart. Eternal progression is now available because the fruit has seeds. You kept your covenant. Those seeds are echoes of what you have become. You share that fruit today.

Now think of the Tree of Life. Are you seeking it daily? Do you hold to the Rod of Iron? Do you push through the darkness, pushing past the mocking and torrent of icy water that begs to destroy you? This is a daily task. You've got to clear the fog in your head, call your Master, study in the morning, and seek Him further, face the world, then return and report to your Master who sent you to where you are now.

See how life is a test? See how it begs you to repent, exercise faith. I don't believe in coincidence. Too many things have been put in my path, not just on my mission back in 1993 (has it been that long?) but in my daily life.

You can have that too. Really reach out to your Father in prayer. When I asked to have my strength strengthened, He put challenges in my path. I have a good relationship with Him and my Savior because of those experiences.

Guys, be good (John 16:33 and D&C 90:24), humble (James 4:6, 1 Peter 4:5, Ether 12:27), and be still (Psalms 46:10 and D&C 101:16) and God will help you in whatsoever you need. I promise you that. Now is the time for work. The foe seems to undo your work. Press forward as your ancestors did. Blaze a trail that cannot be covered or destroyed, not for you alone, but for your master who sent you. You got this brethren.
