Sunday School 26 - Alma 17-22 - Embark to serve
Many saints will relate to Alma and Amulek. The idea of doing a calling while their world seems to be falling apart and everything is against them. I am sure most of us will not do jail time or be tied up watching others die, but have you watched as children or friends make bad decisions despite the warnings? Has your heart broken because someone left the church or family? Weather malicious or accidental the words of Yoda come to mind. Fear, leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.
I don't know how long Alma and Amulek were there in a harsh town but being a convert resulted in such intensity that once they joined the church they had to leave. Standing for the faith, our faith, may ask us to be hurt or leave because of the fear, anger and hatred brewing. It is during this time that we should not let pain define us but what we endure to accomplish during the pain be the definition.
When we win their hearts they will believe.
A missionary knows service. In our callings we are asked to be like the great shepherd who lead his flock but be part of the flock. The flock trust the shepherds guidance. They love the shepherd. In our callings we are asked to be servant leaders. We are asked to love our charge and know them. Weather they are a class or our family, our charge look to us for love and guidance and it is up to us to look to the Lord for help in that calling so that it is not just a calling but that we can be chosen in the callings embrace.
Prepare yourself and let God lift you so that you can lift others.
To be be enlisted in your calling says that you will embark (D&C 4:2) on the journey that can change you. You want the Lord's spirit to be part of your experience. When Zeezrom changed, it was because Alma and Amulek didn't let the things at home impare their ability to be an example of the Savior in teaching. The Savior lifted Amulek when his hometown was falling apart. I am sure that watching converts die and scriptures burned was not easy, ok horrible is the words I would use. Embark! Be all in! Our lives might be tough. Our souls might go through turmoil. Again, don't let it define you but use it to build your spirit. Push forward. Go didn't send you here to fail but to be s light on a hill, to shepard homes and classes, to show servant leadership that is both at the helm, encourageing the strong, and bringing up the rear, carrying those that struggle.
Heavenly Father loves us. We can do it because His Son did it. Have hope and faith and have a great week.
