Sunday School 21 - Mosiah 25-28
These small chapters discuss a split between the king and the church. Now, I wondered, and my wife also, if this was because of Mosiah's sons and weather or not he could be fair because of their wickedness. I thought a long time. King Benjamin was gone, Alma the high priest was new to town, Limhi forefitted his crown and was also new. There was a lot of changes.
It seems that strong changes lead to push back. Being strong in the gospel is hard. We are asked to push back a torrent of social, political, physical and mental crap. When our little one are small we can protect them. The Spirit helps us be world resistant with repentance filling in our spaces of weakness. The real question is what happens when the children grow up? Do we try to world proof our children or child proof the world? We cannot shelter them forever.
I think how that went down. The testimony of the parents could not cover forever the children. Only one testimony does that. Jesus has a testimony of our father that changes us, moves us. Giving that testimony to our children is our responsibility but like soil, children need to let the testimony grow and become their own. Perhaps Alma had done his best with his son but the seeds needed rain to let the testimony grow, a soft soil, a tender heart, a repentant soul.
Take time to keep your own soil soft and changeable. Do it for your children, for your spouse, your friends, and strangers. When we are changeable we can help people change too. If you have people struggling or rebelling in your life and they want answers, follow the Spirit and pray for them. Encourage and enlighten them with pearls of wisdom. Help them see how God has helped them in times of struggle and has plucked them out. The scriptures say snatched for Alma (Mosiah 27:28), for Peter it was immediately reached out (Matthew 14:31). You are not meant to fail even in your most dire moments. The same is for those struggling about you.
This week pray for someone who needs a prayer and pray to see how you can help them in their trials, perhaps overcome them or comfort while in them. We are the angels God sends sometimes. Reflect on that.
