Class,
Succour means running or racing to help so when the Lord succours us, he comforts us in our trials as the angel that comforted even the Savior in the garden of Gethsemane.
Faith is an entrenching and unquenchable trust. This trust is needed to enter into God presence. (Hebrews 11:6) Faith is also the evidence of things hoped for and that is tested! An example of this is after Danial was thrown into the den of lions, his faith was tried with the chaos of the teeth and hunger of wild beasts his faith was reassured and because of it when God rescued him his faith increased. This experience changed him better to who he was all through his life. Dozen of examples are in the Book of Mormon and the Bible. The story of Joseph Smith is a strong example too.
Our trials may be physical, it may be spiritual, it matters not. What matters is our trust in the Savior's redemption that He has reserved for us. Faith is holding on to a promise because, though we cannot see everything to come, we can trust that God, who is above us all, sees the promise and when it will come (Hebrews 9;11). We'll talk more about that.
It says in Hebrews 11:1...
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. When Peter walked on the water, his faith (deep trust) allowed him to walk on water (a symbol of chaos among Hebrews) and when his emotions and fear got in the way of his faith and reason, the things that built his faith, he faltered. Jesus in that moment grabbed his hand because he, Peter, trusted Him who was the Savior. He, Peter's Redeemer pulled him from the chaos because of the Apostle's abiding and unshakable trust.
How is Jesus like the Vail? He was torn for us. Through Him we will see our Heavenly Father. Our Father sees our redemption because of that Vail. The gospel asks us to see heaven through the author and finisher of our faith. We we get revelation of any kind, it is because the Savior wants us to see, hear or understand something that will change our lives. These moments are precious. I encourage you to write it down. As we study the New Testament you will see things that will spark something. Write it down so it's not forgotten.
I like this quote on Talking Scripture. "Your faith was born when Christ showed Himself to you."
• Bryce - Talking Scripture
Many of us can recall the day that our faith was born. For me, it was when I was an eight year old mourning over a lie. I was a newly baptized member. I thought I was going to be so good and had failed. Heavenly Father heard my prayer begging for forgiveness and saw my desire to do better and told me in that moment my sin was forgiven. Since then I have sinned and fallen at times but I know my Savior lives and He has seen my for who I want to be. I have repented many times seeking to be worthy of His presence. That trust has become stronger and stronger because of the Redeemer and that small experience for me and when my faith was born. Your experience may have already happened. Nurture your faith in the Savior and He will lead you in your path to better and brighter days.
Reason accepts confidence dispit fear. This is faith. Quote me on this. When we have our experiences that have built our faith, it will be tested. For the Red Sea it is legend that they needed to step into the Sea knowing God would part it. God was there, the priesthood holder was there but faith was now needed. Take the first step when you are tested.
Chastisement teaches us, as servants, how to be sons and daughters. Chastisement teaches us and corrects our course that we cannot see that a loving Father and Savior sees. It moves us from blind obedient servant to a child of God with open eyes.
Anchored trust is unwavering faith. When we say we have faith we are declaring that we trust our Savior and Redeemer. When you hear an Apostle talk about their faith and trust in the Savior, it's because they know the Redeemer lives and he will race to help us when we cry out.
Remember how I have told you that this life is the second act of a three act experience. Some of the promises are afar off. Abraham didn't see the Savior, didn't see a family that numbered the sands of the sea, a ownership of land but the two things he did get was priesthood and an eternal blessing. We have and will get blessings that are eternal in nature.
