Primary 129 - Council with the Lord

image (yes, we know it's Tolkien Council but it fits.)

Children,

When Jesus was raised and went into heaven, He led his church through the Hily Ghost.  Up to that point the Lord came to the Jews and Samaritans. It was during this time that Peter received a vision about eating "common" food. Three times he refused not knowing that this referred to changes that the Savior needed to occur in the church. A Centurion's servants came to the Apostle to invite him to be with their master and his home. It was at this time, he, Peter understand  and of course he went and it was then he understood the visionmore fully. He was taught line upon line.

We are going to talk about change and council with the church and the Lord. As a church we have seen policy mistaken as gospel. For Peter he thought that the Lord's church was for only Israel and had to be shown it was for the whole world. Yes, we have had policies that were contraversial but the gospel has never been such.  Issues like circumcision of gentiles or black and the priesthood are policy issues that were policy. Faith, repentance baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost are gospel.

Policy will change; wold church to home church; three hours to two hours. The old church is much like the new church. The gospel will never change. The goal of the gospel is to bring us home to our Heavenly Father. Our policy and history is messy but thats life. The gospel is clean and direct.

The next issue is coincils in the home and church. When the apostles had questions about what to do with church policy, all made suggestions but in the end of the day it was the cheif apostle that made the final decision and all sustain the decision. The same is true of councils all though the church and home. Those who have a responsibly to be there give their input on how to teach or rules or policy and present it completely and thoroughly.  The leader of the meeting, a president, bishop, father, patriarch, what have you makes the final say and all sustain it.

The church is asked to make calls on issues that arise and the leaders council with others to make a good decision. Dads lean on moms, bishops on councilors are examples of leaders looking to otgers for help. It is not always perfect but its a learning experience we will all have.

Finally for all of us we need to council with our Father at times. He wants us to make our own good decisions. When we are at a crossroad and need help we would hope you would see what others have done, the prophets, the apostles, the Savior and if you still need help ask your Father in Heaven. There is so many resources to help you in your life. May your life be full because of good choices. This we say in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
