“The great religious leaders of the world such as Mohammed, Confucius, and the Reformers, as well as philosophers including Socrates, Plato, and others, received a portion of God’s light. Brothers and sisters,
Proverbs are words of wisdom that impact us to do great things. Ecclesiastes is also words of wisdom that tells us to not get stuck in temporal things but to enjoy life to the fullest. Between Job, Psalms, Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes are the wisdom that could be applied to everything we are doing.
Children, look for good books and wisdom in movies and television. Heavenly Father is helping all of his children in every aspect of our lives. He uses politics, religion, comics, information charts, cartoons, etc. It is vitally important to look for good things and see the eternal purpose of temporal things. Satan tries daily to use the same things to sway us to do evil a little at a time till it consumes us.
"Don't look to the trash for the pearls" was a proverb that Brother Bingham's parents would say to remind him that rated R movies were never a positive thing to look at. Look to your parents and family for things that have changed you and that you want to keep in your heart. The scriptures are a great resource for pearls of wisdom that can anchor you to the Savior and the Holy Spirit. Your Heavenly Father will get to know you better when you do this. Use your culture and history to find wisdom. Let your life in the gospel anchor you, and yoke you to the Savior.
We promise you that as you seek the good things in life you will be blessed. But don’t just seek the good things strive to be a consumer of light (the good thing of God) and then let your light permeate every aspect of your lives. This will be a huge blessing in your lives and the lives of everyone coming in contact with. We love and pray for you guys.
