Primary 77 - Elijah

When we are feeling alone and afraid like no one knows our problems, remember it was a prayer that brought fire from heaven for Elijah and He (God) whispers to us not because He is far away but right beside us.

Remember Mount Carmel? God answered by fire. The people had forgotten the Lord and the false priests challenged the prophet to a dual of gods. Their god was a god of fire and the sky. Elijah's (and ours by the way) was Jehovah, God of all things both heaven and earth. The prophet gave them the first pick of offers, each team built their alter of which the prophet used twelve stones. He then put a trench around his altar and poured twelve buckets of water. Then the priests were given all day to call lightning or fire to cook the offering. All-day they begged, pleaded, cried, threw themselves on the offering, and cut themselves; anything to make it happen. It didn't work. Then it was the prophet's turn. He said a simple prayer. There was no cutting, no sacrificing people, just a simple prayer. The Lord send a bolt of lightning so strong it consumed the offering and the alter it was on.

God is closer than you think. He, the God of Heaven heard the prophet because he was not demanding or wanting proof of something. His request sent fire to consume the offering so that those who needed more faith would be blessed to see the miracle of God in their lives. God is the god miracles through fire and the Holy Ghost.

Sometime later, it seems that witnessing miracles did not maintain the faith of the children of Israel, so Elijah became miserable and went to a cave to hide as people wanted his life. The Lord told him to serve others, 700 by number to be precise. See the Lord knew that service gives you the chance to grow, come out if your yourself. How many of us know to serve others when we feel alone? The scriptures tell us, through King Benjamin, when we serve that it's an echo of service to God. Elijah learned that he had to do better than be alone. When we get out and become part of others' lives, we can help others in ways that we never knew.

Remember this week, Heavenly Father is so close He just needs to whisper. He is so close he hears your most simple prayers and service to others and helps us come out of our caves of plight and depression feeling alone to see and love others.

Challenges
1) Read 2 Kings 2-7
2) Make a goal to serve others this week? It could be a brother or sister you don’t get along with? Record your feelings and experiences. See how your service blesses others and yourself.
