Primary 72 - Joshua and growing up

The story of Joshua is one about change. They went from God giving them everything and only asking them to follow the cloud and fire to being on their own and getting instruction more liberally.

When we grow up our parents give us freedom and instruction. They provide food and shelter; they give us instruction and entertainment. That's great! Then we grow up and we have a change in moving out. Some of us go to school, jobs, or missions. Again, we are watched over (especially missionaries) but we are asked to be more self-reliant. Then we start careers and families and yet again more freedom but again we learn to follow Jesus differently than when we were children or teens or young adults.

Our precious brothers and sisters, think of us like farmers think if plants, when we are seeds, we are not asked to produce fruit, just break the soil. When we break soil, we are asked to reach for the sky, create blossoms, and grow strong, still, we are not asked to show fruit. It's when we are matured then the fruit is asked for. Now the fruit will reflect the effort you made growing up so do good continually and follow Jesus daily through prayer and study.

Joshua was asked to do things differently than what they did with Moses. You will be asked to do things differently with each prophet, each task brought before you. Your play and work will change like your faith and prayers. You may find dependence differently from today than ten years from now. Maybe your relationship with our Father, Savior, and the Holy Ghost will be different but that's expected. There's a point in our lives where our parents watch us become adults, husbands, wives, and parents. Ask any grandparents about growing up and they will tell you they have a different relationship with their world than they had as parents, young adults, and children.

Our lives are ones of progression or digression. There is no standing still. Our goal should be to constantly be developing our connection with God and our fellow man. Are we making the world a better place through service or sitting and watching the world go by? We encourage you all to strive to continue to learn and grow; help and lift others. We love you guys.

Challenges
1) Read Judges 2-4, 6-8, 13-16
2) This week write down a goal to do 5 acts of service. Before bed write all of the good things you do. What was the reaction? How did it make you feel? Loving and serving our fellow man is one way to develop our relationship with God.
