Primary 66 - Easter
How is the Atonement reflected in the Old Testament? So many stories echo the Savior and what he would do for His people, specifically, those that would and will follow Him.
Such examples are building faith through the 10 plagues, recognizing the Lord in our redemption, they complained. He baptized Israel by passing through the Red Sea so that sin and vice could not follow them, they complained. He then gave them food to eat and water to drink in the most unusual ways. Things were sweet when once they were bitter, they complained. He split the rock and gave them water to drink and all the while they complained. They sustained the prophet and won a war, still, they complained.
This Easter is a time to reflect and remember the miracles of prophets, priesthood, technology, a worldwide church, and temples everywhere. Oh our sweet brothers and sisters, do not think of your blessings as burdens. While it's true that with great power comes great responsibility, we must not see our responsibilities as curses or burdens.
In the movie Mulan, the young soldier was given weights, one in each hand. Many tried to overcome tasks despite the new burden. It wasn't until they realized that the burden was a tool and a blessing that they were able to overcome trials and teach others to overcome the same challenges.
When we were baptized and confirmed, we were asked to receive the Holy Ghost. This was not a commandment, like the Law of Moses, but it was an invitation. God will force no anyone to heaven but will plead for us to obey the law He has given and receive His gifts. He gave the Holy Ghost, the gospel, the atonement, the scriptures, the prophets, and forgiveness for the repentant.
Do not see mana from heaven or rocks that spring living water as burdens in our wagons of life because they are heavy but see them as something you can share to lighten the load. The price has been paid. Share your gifts and your testimony. Your ever-growing faith and constant repentance will be an asset and prepare you for the tasks at hand.
It is not enough that the Savior created a gift for you. Would you stare at the Christmas tree and its bounty, lights, and colors and say it is enough? No, you would open and utilize the gifts and give thanks for your bounty. This example reminds us to then constantly repent and sustain the prophet, recognize the priesthood in our lives and visit the temple and feel the Spirit of its dedication. Our lives are hard and He, the Lord, God of Israel, knows it. Give thanks this Easter for our great power and responsibility for it is a gift and blessing. Remember we love you and pray for you always.
