Primary 65 - Parting the Sea
Brothers and sisters,
Mana is like faith and must be gathered daily and you can never gather too much or too little, just keep gathering. (II Corinthians 8:15). Bothers and sisters, the prophet has asked us to feast daily on the words of God in Conference. Why? Feasting on the words of God helps build our faith by personalizing the stories and experiences we read. The Lord taught the importance of consistency to the children of Israel by having them gather food and water daily.
When Joseph of Egypt gathered food he didn't stop eating for seven years but kept eating, he just prepared for famine. We must constantly strengthen and gather faith daily like Joseph. We know trials and difficulties will arise in our lives and we need to prepare ourselves now. We must also remember that signs come and go the reform our faith and that our faith must be centered in Christ. The Lord parted the seas and gave food from heaven and water from the rock. These signs showed God's power but it required faith. Faith must be constantly gathered and stored because like food and water it is constantly used to sustain us.
We can believe all we want but we must do something to show that faith so that when we share it our faith will increase (James 2:14-27). We can gather an abundance but that must not stop us from continually seeking faith in all its forms to feed our souls otherwise all the signs and tokens we see like the parting of seas and water from rocks or rainbows or other moments, mean nothing because there is no faith to sustain us. We can never stay in one place. Either we are progressing or we are digressing. We are either increasing in faith and trust or we are decreasing in value and virtue. It requires constant movement and progression we can never standstill.
There is something we learned. Rod = Word in Egyptian. So what that means is when we say the Iron Rod is the Word of God they are the same. So when Moses stretched his Rod it might have been his voice speaking and commanding with the word of God to the Red Sea. Hold to the rod, brothers, and sisters. Read daily from the Rod of Juda and Joseph (the Bible and Book of Mormon). Let it be a daily part of you like food, water, or breathing.
Let us reflect on the miracle of the parting of the Red Sea and how it applies to us the terms "entangled" and "shut-in" in our life (Exodus 14:3). In our lives, the Egyptians are like Satan coming behind us with the intent to destroy us. At times we feel we are pinched between trial, sin, death, chaos, or like Israel, the River Nile and an army. In Hebrew, water is a symbol of chaos. We must learn to trust God when we fail to see the Father's plan for us and see only the known chaos before us or the army behind us looking to destroy us. Debt, unattended chores, being mean, or causing strife and stressful to others could be things that could block us from where we want to go.
Think upon this, when we pray over our food we say…
We ask thee to bless the food that it will nourish us and strengthen us and do us the good we need. We thank thee for it.
We say this prayer two to three times a day. Israel faced fear and was taught to dine daily.
Heavenly Father parted the sea. He put people in a place where he can behold His power. We may not get what we expect but when God does a miracle, it will be remembered for thousands of years. Record His miracles that He has done for you so He will be seen in your life by what you do, say, and write.
Again take the time this week, month, and year to feed your faith. We testify if you do this you will be prepared to hear the voice of the Lord. He will speak to your mind and your heart (D&C 8:2). He will guide you in ways you might not see, expect or understand at the time it happens, but know He is with you in all things.
We love you guys.
