Primary 55 - Enoch

Brothers and sisters,

Enoch was called by God to call people to repentance. Like all other prophets before and after him, the calling brings to the surface the inadequate feelings of the calling. Things like speech, maturity, low status, hated by family or country, low education these men thought was the reason that they, the prophets, thought God could or should have called someone else.

The term Zion means a standard, a pillar, a law, a claim. All these terms we define ourselves. God calls us to be a Zion people; an example of God's law, where it can be taught, can be internalized, and shared.

Another point we wish to share is just because Enochs people were Zion, it didn't mean they were safe or loved by other nations. They were hated, armies were raised and they had to show their true faith in God the Father and the Savior. We are asked to do the same. We want to be Heavenly Father's claim or stake, His ensign or banner.

Our time is rough but we also learn that we are meant to be tried. Heaven weeps for the wicked and the bondage that Satan is attempting to keep us under. We must raise a beacon to Babylon to lead others out of bondage so that they can join us with the Savior, our Redeemer, and continue to find those that want Heavenly Father as not just their teacher but Master as the Savior is ours today.

I know we know so little of God but know this, Joseph and the other prophets have taught us so much through renewal faith in God, repentance, and renewal of spirit, baptism, and renewal of that covenant, and a constant attempt to renew our relationship with the Holy Ghost, our Redeemer and a loving Father that weeps for the wicked.

Finally, always keep in mind, Heavenly Father loves all His children. He has never felt pleasure in destroying the wicked with a flood, famine, pestilence, or war. He wants all to be with Him in our Celestial home.

Brothers and sisters, bear your testimony, sing praises and songs of greatness, pray often, and give thanks every day. We will be a Zion people more every day, one act of kindness at a time. Each of us builds Zion in our Savior's way. We love you guys. Have a great week.

Remember that God has His plan and knows our potential and worth. Just like a master sculptor working on a masterpiece. No one but him truly knows our final potential. Thanks again

  1. One of the things we stressed in our home this week was that Zion must have been one of the few words that came directly from the pure Adamic language. It was stated to mean "one heart and one mind". More simplistically, it probably meant "oneness or unity". Interestingly, James E. Faust, Boyd K. Packer and other apostles taught that "atonement" means something similar--"at one ment", or a "state of being at one". I find this interesting as the very thing that set these people apart was their belief that Christ would come in the Meridian of Time to make a sacrifice to save us all. Sacrifices were a big part of this people's culture.

We talked about the importance of seeking unity and oneness. Where we are unable to make the world one, or the United States one, or the state of Idaho one, or even our city one...or our schools and classes one. We do have the power to make the attitudes inside our home to be one. We thought about practical ways to make this happen. We then made commitments to carry out those ideas.

A powerful statement by Boyd K Packer is that we can help Church member with everyday problems if we will just help them increase their attendance and testimony of the temple. I find this statement as a bold declaration. Yet, as non-intuitive this practice may seem, it is true. I feel that one of the best ways to create unity and oneness is to attend the temple. It is not small thing that Zion is where God's temple is at.

  2. Jason, it seems that the Lord really wants us to come together as a people and as servants and fellow saints.
