Primary 47 - Celestial Kingdom
Elder Neal A. Maxwell taught:
On the other side of the veil, there are perhaps seventy billion people. They need the same gospel, and releases occur here to aid the Lord’s work there. Each release of a righteous individual from this life is also a call to new laborers. Those who have true hope understand this. Terefore, though we miss the departed righteous so much here, hundreds may feel their touch there. One day, those hundreds will thank the bereaved for gracefully forgoing the extended association with choice individuals here, so that they could help hundreds there. In God's ecology, talent and love are never wasted. The hopeful understand this, too.
Brothers and sisters,
We do not fully understand the place called the Celestial Kingdom except what is described in the scriptures but where we are going is not half as important as what we are doing and what we aim to do in the next life. The kingdom might be paved with gold but it means nothing if we do nothing. It is our privilege to serve others. Our labor aims to bring all our brothers and sisters home to our father. Being members of the Latter-day Saints means helping our Father with getting all of His children home. Each dispensation has been charged with this and each dispensation has watched eagerly through the vision of our arrival. We may not be the children of the millennium but the latter days. That means we are to work to get things ready for each generation that follows. We are living by a standard that Numbers would compare to the Nazarenes of old (no wine and special diet; Numbers chapter 6). The same rules that Samson and Christ lived by. We are asked to be a holy people; a particular people. Even more now, we must separate ourselves from virtual Babylon. Even more, we must redeem our dead and save the living. We must bear our testimonies pray and fast. I know the Doctrine and Covenants is going to help us if we pay to heed. Throughout this year we have learned how the gospel was particular; that it requires a people that are willing to change and obtain; to grow, to share. The Doctrine and Covenants opens that doesn't for us like the gates of heaven.
Brothers and sisters, we are on a great journey. Above that, we have the best instructions to help us learn so much about the gospel. We have great leaders, teachers, parents, scriptures, and a hope that cannot be quenched in a Savior that wants us to succeed.
We testify that the Lord loves you and wants you to return to Him. Pray and he will open our eyes and hearts. He will guide us to those that need our help and love. Strive to live and act as the Savior would and you will be turned into a great tool in His hands to bring forth His work and glory. We love and pray for you. In the name of Jesus Christ amen.
Challenges
1) Read the articles of faith, and the official declarations one and two.
2) Think about ways to share the light of Christ. Strive to act on promptings and record your experience.
