Primary 38 - Love one another
This week we are discussing religious freedom. After the temple was built, the saints were in the deepest debt the church had ever been. The prophet was told that he could buy a house in Salem MA where gold was in the basement. Now in hindsight we would say "that's not how God works" but the prophet didnt know that. So off the presidency went to buy the house for the gold (that by the way wasnt there).
Now what the presidency learned was valuable. When they arrived, they learned a valuable lesson. The brethren learned about the witch trials. See people wanted a God centered society but after time pride and fear that lead to the death of good people. Oliver Cowdry saw the events happening again as they had learned Protestants had burned down a Catholic building. The apostle had learned a about zealotry. That's when pride becomes more important than love of God and neighbors. Oliver learned as did Joseph, we as saints couldn't become haughty (high and mighty in your mind). They immediately went home to ask the saints to invite all to live among them. They commanded the saints to be kind.
So what does that mean for us? We live in a world where we are told by some "we're right and they're wrong". That is a division we dont want to get in that trap. Sure you have the gospel and the scriptures but never get snared in the thought that people are less than others. We are all equal. We are all trying To go to heaven; all of us. Some have some pieces of the gospel and do it as hard and best as they can while some saints are lazidasical in their actions. We are commanded not to judge by action or appearance another's persons righteous. Be kind, love your neighbor, do good continually. These people, in our lives, are our spiritual brothers and sisters.
When you play work and go about your day remember this; we love or are trying to love as Jesus loves. Continue to share your testimony, share a scripture, pray and help your neighbors.
Remember we love you and pray for you daily.
