Primary 12 - The Armor of God
Our wonderful class,
We are so privileged to teach you the blessings of the Savior.
In Doctrine and Covenants 28 we learned that it was vital to take on the Armor of God; to protect your head through a helmet (thoughts), heart through a chest plate (feelings), loins (virtue and chastity), feet through boots (your foundation); that you should bear a shield (faith and hope of Christ) and a sword (the Holy Ghost that can pierce the very soul and drive the devil from your presence).
The armor is mentioned over and over in the scriptures. The importance can not be emphasized enough. Keep it tight so that the fiery darts can't get to you. What are those darts? Doubt and fear; a pride that makes us think we are better than our armor. How would they get us to take off our armor? Ever got snow under your coat or boots or gloves? Now thinking of that, how quick were you to take off the article to free yourself of the cold? This example is similar to those that get a fiery dart in their loose armor. Each generation of people has thought that they were in the worse situation. Earthquakes fires, famines, floods, war; all these outside things cannot compare to the struggles and trials of an unprotected soul. If you don't protect yourself, looking at your struggles outside yourself, they will seem bigger. A strong faith through testimony will do you so much. Protect your spirit first and your body will follow.
Doctrine and Covenants 29 may list some hard times, but we want you to be of good cheer. The Savior is in charge. If you are saying your prayers and reading your scriptures and bearing your testimony, your feet are shod (protected) with the gospel and you are standing on a firm foundation. If you are reading good books, singing listening to good things (music and talks) your mind will be protected. If you play and work with good people you love you will have a protected heart.
Our young brothers and sisters, you may see and hear things that might make you afraid or doubt. Worry not, Heavenly Father knows exactly what is going on and will protect us. That doesn’t mean we won’t have trials and struggles. It does mean we will receive comfort, peace and support. But we have to be in a place to hear and listen to the guidance we receive through the Holy Ghost. This is one reason we challenge you guys to record the impression, guidance, thoughts and blessings you receive. This helps us understand how the Holy Ghost communicate with us making it easier to know what we need to do.
Have a great week.
