Primary 6 - Aaronic Priesthood

Our precious class,

Happy Valentine's Day. We are so glad to be studying with you about the restoration of the Lesser Priesthood or Aaronic Priesthood. A couple of things we want to bring to your mind. The priesthood is wonderful and was a key in restoring the gospel. The Aaronic priesthood was the power through which the authority of Heavenly Father could be administered. Because of the Aaronic Priesthood the saints could get the sacrament with all the blessings of heaven. They could preach and admonish the gospel changing lives of those that lived around them… and this started because of the translation of the Book of Mormon. The translator and scribe wanted information about baptism. Because of this experience Oliver saw his first angel who laid his hands on Joseph and Oliver and gave them a precious gift that has blessed our church and the lives of millions for over two hundred years.

Who was that Angel? It was John the Baptist. Why was it him that restored the Aaronic Priesthood? Because there was no one living on the earth that had the priesthood and he was the one who had the keys and ability to give them the Aaronic Priesthood.

Brothers and sisters, we want to continue to encourage you to seek for light and knowledge to strengthen your faith. This will require humility like Joseph and Oliver. What that means is to think of others. The true sign of humility is thinking of others; sisters, brothers, mom, dad, friends and neighbors. Heavenly Father blesses us when we are humble.

After the two brethren received the power they were baptized and ordained into the priesthood as it has been done always in the church. You see children, once Heavenly Father gives us the tools to do His work, He asks us to do the work. John the Baptist didn't baptize Joseph or Oliver. They did the work after they got the keys and power of heaven.

Now that we have the keys of the priesthood we are asked to do a great work. For you it is to bear your testimony as members of the church, for others it can be teaching the gospel or baptizing.

Remember our analogy of the tree from last week? While we reach to heaven like a tree through prayer remember that trees breath in bad air and breath out good. When you bear your testimony, remember to say good things that lift and inspire so that others will be lifted too.

We cannot stress enough how much we love you as your teachers and want you to know we pray for you often and that we have a testimony of the Savior.

Challenges

1. Read D&C 14-17

2. Record your thoughts and feelings about the reading.

3. Share what you wrote with someone.

Love your teachers,

Brother Keller and Brother Bingham
