Primary 96 - Joel
Joel warned of taking lightly the important and eternal things and placing an over-emphasis on things that are temporal and weak. All the prophets have seen this when they, the wicked, say "taking it as a thing of naught" (2 Nephi 28:16).
The Apostle Ronald A. Raymond said in 2021...
"What things do you ponder? What things matter to you? What are the things of your soul?"
And we say likewise, what is important to you. What hills will you fight on? No swearing? No rated R movies? No dirty jokes or making fun of others for their weaknesses? Do you seek to attend church every week? Do you seek to read the scriptures daily? Will you stand for right when things go wrong?
We encourage you to search yourself and decide that now so when temptation comes that you will quickly turn away as Joseph of Egypt when faced with the temptation of Potiphar's wife.
Assume not that God will not be there. He takes time for you. Take time to know Him. Take time to know his Son, our Savior. When you make your stakes in your life that will anchor you to Him who knows you and understands your circumstance. This is why we ask you to fast, pray, read and counsel with God in your weakness and give thanks for your strengths. Heavenly Father loves you. Your parents and teachers love and care too. We want you to keep eternal things high on your list of things to know and love like your Father, your Savior, your mom, and your dad. When you best your testimony, testify of things eternal and use temporal things to learn about eternal things. Life will be tough but when you hold to the rod with all your might moving forward to the Savior, you're on the right track. Don't let go to the temple or church be your goal but let going to the Savior be your goal and the temple or church be a stake or maker showing your progress to the Savior. When we say read or write, to pray or fast, these things are benchmarks to help us praise and know the Savior.
You're great and we love you. Do not let poor or bad habits be the markers of your life, but repent of your hard thing and broaden your understanding by listening to the Prophet and reading the scriptures. Careful of the idols that we create. You are great people and we have seen you grow so much. Have a great Thanksgiving.
Challenges
1) Read Jonah, Micah
2) What hills are you willing to fight on? Take time to think, pray and write out your goals. Decide today about what kind of person you want to be. Missionary, Righteous worthy priesthood holder, Father, Honest, Kind, Faithful? Deciding today gives you direction. It is easier to pick a path and stay on it than traverse the obstacles to get back on the path.
