Primary 34 - Build and sustain
Our dear class,
This week we are discussing D&C 94-97. It is important to realize that this is the sections on the temple and importance of building and sustaining the temple. These days the temples have been built, but the act of sustaining the temple is constant. We are a temple keeping and building people, but we were not always like that. In the early years of the church, we were asked to build a temple in Ohio and in Missouri. The saints in Ohio were slow, but when the Lord chastised them, they quickly built a temple. The saints in Missouri were fast to say yes, but built nothing. Like the two sons in the parable by Jesus, the sons did the opposite of what they said that they would do.
A long time ago in Jerusalem, Mary went to the temple for three things; one, to celebrate the birth of her son, second to receive the ordinances and instructions of the temple, and third to place her concerns with the Lord. This is what each of us should be doing and if we are not ready because of youth or sin, we should ready ourselves by faith, repentance, remembering and renewing our covenants, and listening to the Holy Ghost. By even walking the temple grounds, we can feel the Spirit of the dedication that has blessed all the sacred lands where the temples now reside.
Jesus followed his mother's example when he too went to the temple with his parents and again counseled with his father through prayer, celebrated his successes and presented his concerns. I assume that his participated in ordinances for his age. The older that we get, the more opportunities we are given by Heavenly Father. We must, as a Zone Leader once said, "Catch the Vision". When Brother Bingham was a missionary in California, "catch the vision" was about missionary work. Today those words echo to the three pillars of the gospel, redeem our dead, perfect the saints, proclaim the gospel. All of these circle around the temple. If we stay a covenant-keeping people, we will avoid the mistakes of the earlier saints and truly help those that cannot help themselves. Keep a temple center life, brothers and sisters, is our prayer in the name of the blessed Savior, Amen.
