Primary 4 - The Spirit of God
Children,
Heavenly Father desires us to do good continually. We want to stress for you a desire to serve Him and Jesus.
Heavenly Father wants you to have joy and also to seek revelation. There are two forms, one, He speaks to your mind (do this; say that) and the other is a feeling. Heavenly Father constantly is giving us inspiration through the Holy Ghost. Feelings of warmth and comfort are equally as important as feelings of stupor of thought or nothing. Pay special attention to the feelings of the Holy Ghost. The Lord does not want us to be confused. The Lord is light and understating.
When Oliver Cowdrey was with Joseph during the translation, the two learned about the promptings of the spirit and also the gifts of the Spirit. Oliver wanted to translate a wonderful gift of the Spirit, but over time lost the gift as he didn't exercise it. The same can be said of the gift of the Holy Ghost, of which you all have.
Exercise the gift you have. There are many ways and here is a short list (the Holy Ghost can expand this list).
Pray everyday and often so that you can feel the promptings of the Spirit and hear His voice.
Read your scriptures every day. Missionaries look to the scriptures for inspiration and now that you have been a member for a year or more, read for inspiration with your family or by yourself.
Repentance is important. When Joseph saw Heavenly Father and Jesus, they told him his sins were forgiven. Because of that he could be in their presence and receive their council. Repent so that the Holy Ghost can inspire you too.
Have faith. Faith is the things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. When we have faith, we see miracles that show us that Heavenly Father is with us through the Holy Ghost.
Have hope. Faith is the belief that all will have miracles in their life. Hope is that you will have miracles. Have hope. Heavenly Father wants you to know the gospel is not just for everyone but for you personally. He knows you and loves you. When we are doubting, show faith and hope. That way you can be shown a miracle that applies to you from God.
Show charity. When you help others, heaven helps you. In our short time as teachers we have been continually blessed in our homes, work and play because we reached out to others to show the love of Jesus.
Again this is only a few examples and there are many many more. Heavenly Father loves you, we promise but more than that we know the Spirit confirms that. Have a great week.
Challenges:
1. Read next week's lesson D&C 10-11
2. Pick one of the spiritual exercises and record the promptings and feelings you receive after you.
We promise you that the more you recognize those promptings the clear the Lord's communication will be.
