Sunday School 20 - Mosiah 18-24 The Comforter

Alma changed his life tremendously. He wrote all the words of the prophet and abandoned his old life but could not escape the chastisements of the Lord as it was prophecy, the again none of us can (Hebrews 12:6). Change had only started for the people of the waters of Mormon. As I studied what I was going to write, I encountered the many meanings of the Comforter that the Lord sent to his people. I am not versed in Latin, Greek, Hebrew or Arabic but encounter small jems that I strive to share. The definition of the Comforter is no different. In Latin the word for Comforter is parakletos, a legal term. It means one who strengthen or stands with. How appropriate that the Comforter lifted the saints of the waters of Mormon when they left their homes, where chased and hunted. Then when they were found, it was by Lamanites and ex-priests of Noah. The harsh conditions were needed like a needed life change that would prepare them to be the saints that Zarahemla would embrace.  At

Image In April of 2009 in a conference talk entitled Be of Good Cheer , the prophet Thomas Monson said, "Your future is as bright as your faith" King Benjamin was a man who had lead his people through tough times of war and loss (Omni 1:23-25). Lost love ones prepared them for what was coming next, a new name. Trial of loss and pain changes us. It makes us look at time and life differently. Got those that look to the Lord for an answer, eyes are opened to the tender mercy and love our Father has for us to bring our the best in us. These experiences prepare us for the temple, tie us to our family, and seek redemption from our loving Savior. Its not prevalent now but we will see more and more in our study, generational hatred of the Lamanites gets worse and worse. Our own world has such hatred. For some it's "part of the culture". By King Benjamin's day it has been 500+ years of cultural hatred and animosity. King Zeniff in the book of Mosiah notes

Image Class, When I reflect on the term of us being  beggars and our nothingness, I reflect on last week's post about the cat and fat mouse. We are as cats with no thumbs or a voice to object to what happens to us. I seriously hope that we reflect on the Lord's tender mercy. His judgement is truly fair.  As I studied this week and listened to various podcasts I went back to what Talking Scriptures discussed. The discussed Aslan and the girl at the river. “If I run away, it’ll be after me in a moment,” thought Jill. “And if I go on, I shall run straight into its mouth.” Anyway, she couldn’t have moved if she had tried, and she couldn’t take her eyes off it. How long this lasted, she could not be sure; it seemed like hours. And the thirst became so bad that she almost felt she would not mind being eaten by the lion if only she could be sure of getting a mouthful of water first.    “If you’re thirsty, you may drink.”    [...She] realized that it was the lion speaking.
